Newark Man Gets Life in Prison for 'Nanny Cam' Beating

A Newark man was sentenced today in connection to the brutal home invasion beating that was caught on a home's surveillance camera.

Shawn Curtis, of Newark, who was convicted In early June of aggravated assault, robbery and other crimes for the 2013 attack in Millburn, was sentenced to life in prison today.

According to Judge Ronald Wigler, Curtis received a life sentence on the first-degree robbery charge, taking into consideration his arrest history and being considered a persistent offender.

According to authorities, on June 21, Curtis forcibly entered the woman’s Cypress Street home at approximately 10 a.m., where the mother was with two young children.

He assaulted the woman, including throwing her down the basement stairs. A portion of the attack was captured on the family’s home video.

The woman suffered injuries but survived and testified against Custis.

The children were not injured.
