A city man was found guilty Friday of robbing a 23-year-old woman at knifepoint last year in Newark.
Deshaun Williams, 21, was found guilty of robbery, witness tampering, simple assault and weapons offenses Friday after the weeklong trial.
On March 24, 2014, Williams approached the 23-year-old victim at knifepoint on the 100 block of Johnson Avenue making off with her cash, credit cards, iPad and her wedding ring. Williams was subsequently arrested.
Williams in July - while in prison - wrote a letter to the victim claiming he was not in the state at the time of the robbery and therefore had made a mistake when identifying him as her attacker. In addition, Williams' family member also contacted the victim cellphone.
Authorities however, confirmed that Williams was not only New Jersey at the time of the robbery but was facing additional charges after he allegedly attacked girlfriend that day.
Williams could face 25 years in state prison.
His sentencing is scheduled for July 17.
