The Essex County Prosecutor's Office Homicide/Major Crimes Task Force, under Acting Essex County Prosecutor Theodore N. Stephens, II, is actively investigating the death of 40-year-old Michael Castro of Newark.
The incident occurred on January 26, around 12:25 p.m., when Newark police were dispatched to a service call on the 100 block of Stone Street in Newark.
Local residents reported hearing a loud argument inside a building before witnessing a man, later identified as Castro, stumbling to the ground outside.
Upon arrival, police found Castro suffering from head trauma and lacerations.
Tragically, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 12:53 p.m.
Currently, authorities are exploring the possibility that this may have been a domestic violence incident.
As the investigation remains active and ongoing, no arrests have been made yet.
