Newark Man in Custody, Another Sought in New Brunswick Murder

Middlesex County Prosecutor Andrew C. Carey and Director Anthony A. Caputo of the New Brunswick Police Department said that a Newark man was arrested this morning on charges that he was involved in the fatal shooting of a New Brunswick man last month.

Police arrested Rayshawn Riddick, 31, was arrested by members of the New Brunswick Police Department, Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office, and the FBI Task Force. Information regarding Riddick was received through a tip which led to his arrest.

He will be housed at the Middlesex County Adult Corrections Center in North Brunswick pending his first court appearance.

According to authorities, on August 29, 2017, Riddick along with Michael Martin aka “Maniac”, 26, also of Newark were charged with one count of murder in the first degree, conspiracy to commit murder in the first degree and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose in the second degree, Martin remains at large.

An investigation has determined that Riddick and Martin were involved in the fatal shooting of Hakim Williams, 31, of New Brunswick on August 18, 2017.

New Brunswick Police were alerted to the shooting by a 911 call from an area resident and arrived to find the victim deceased inside his car on Fulton Street. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene from multiple gunshot wounds on August 18, 2017, at approximately 11:03 pm.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office is still working in conjunction with the New Brunswick Police Department and the FBI to locate and apprehend the other suspect.

The investigation is active and continuing.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Riddick are merely accusations, and he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
