Newark Police are reporting the arrest of Mr. Marvin Basker, 42, of Newark, for a robbery and other charges after his arrest on Wednesday.
Police said, at approximately 8 a.m., police responded to the 800-block of South 17th Street on a robbery call where a male victim had been robbed by a man of his personal property.
An officer canvassing the area was flagged down by concerned citizens regarding a suspect who they thought was robbing a South 16th Street business at approximately 8:30 a.m. authorities said.
The officer entered the store and ordered the suspect to drop an item he was pointing at the owner.
The object, hidden in a paper bag, was later determined not to be a gun.
Police immediately took Basker into custody and charged with Criminal Restraint, Simple Assault and Terroristic Threats.
Authorities additionally charged Mr. Basker with Robbery after being identified as the man being sought for committing the robbery on South 17th Street
These charges are merely accusations.
Mr. Basker is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
