Police are continuing to investigate a series of shoplifting incidents at stores in Bloomfield Township, including a recent arrest at a local Stop & Shop. On November 11, officers were called to 8 Franklin Street after a report of shoplifting.
According to the store's loss prevention officer, a man attempted to leave the premises with seafood, meat, and other grocery items worth approximately $244 without paying.
The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Jason Yupa of Newark, was detained by the loss prevention officer near the store's exit.
Police arrived shortly thereafter, placed Yupa under arrest, and transported him for further processing.
He has also been arrested on other shoplifting charges around the Essex County region according to public information.
Authorities have not indicated whether this incident is connected to other shoplifting cases in the area but continue to investigate.
Further details have not been released.
