Police announced the arrest of Gilfredo Santiago, 41, of Newark, in connection with the theft of a package that took place on Jan. 14th.
According to authorities, shortly before 2:30 p.m., a North Ward homeowner received a motion notification on his Ring Home Security device that someone was on his porch.
The resident on his cell phone, observed as a deliveryman placed a package on the porch. However, approximately 10 minutes later, the homeowner received yet another motion notification through his Ring device. This time he saw a man remove his delivered package and walk away.
Officials say officers viewed the victim’s Ring Home Security system and identified the suspect as Gilfredo Santiago.
According to authorities, Santiago was taken into custody in the area of Bloomfield Avenue and Mt. Prospect Avenue without incident and charged with Theft.
These charges are merely accusations. The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
