Newark Man Arrested for Allegedly Possessing Weapon, Drugs

Authorities in Newark announced that their Fugitive Apprehension Team arrested Daquan Barber-Hicks, 20, of Newark, for possession of a gun and drugs.

According to Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose, police were searching for Barber-Hicks for warrants stemming from a domestic violence incident involving a burglary and an aggravated assault incident that occurred earlier this year.

Authorities said on Sunday, January 15, 2017, police responded to an apartment on Irvine Turner Boulevard to a call of a burglary in progress.

A female victim reported that Barber-Hicks broke into her apartment and fired a gun during an argument before fleeing the residence police said.

According to police, detectives arrested Barber-Hicks this morning at approximately 9:20 a.m. on Columbia Avenue.

Police said at the time of his arrest; they found Barber-Hicks in possession of a handgun and 67 glassine envelopes of heroin.

In addition to the charges of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Handgun and Possession of a Handgun for Unlawful Purposes, Burglary, Aggravated Assault and Terroristic Threats stemming from the warrants.

Police also charged him with a second count of Possession of a Handgun and Possession of the Handgun for Unlawful Purposes for the gun in his possession, Possession of Heroin, Possession of Heroin with the Intent to Distribute, Possession of CDS on School Property, Resisting Arrest and Possession of a stolen handgun.

These charges are merely accusations.

The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
