The Essex County man accused of being responsible for the 2005 strangling death of a Plainfield woman admitted to the crime on Friday, saying it was the end result of an argument that turned violent.
According to authorities, Dorian Gillon, 52, of Newark pleaded guilty to a single count of aggravated manslaughter in connection with the death of 39-year-old Williametta Moore.
The body of Moore was found just inside the front door of her home on the 700 block of West Third Street in Plainfield on December 15, 2005, according to Union County Assistant Prosecutor Jillian Reyes, who prosecuted the case.
Members of the Prosecutor’s Office’s Homicide Task Force and the Plainfield Police Division continued to jointly pursue leads until September 2013, when Gillon was identified as a suspect and charged, Reyes said.
Police arrested him in Elizabeth without incident at that time where he was held in Union County Jail on $1 million bail then subsequently indicted by a grand jury in May 2014.
Sentencing in the case has been scheduled for Friday, February 23, 2018, at which time the State will recommend a sentence of 18 years in state prison, with at least 85 percent of the term to be served before the possibility of parole under the provisions of New Jersey’s No Early Release Act.
