Newark Man Accused of Two Separate Aggravated Assaults, Arrested

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose reports the arrest yesterday of Ryeshon Peteet, 21, of Newark, for two separate incidences of aggravated assault.

According to authorities, at approximately 2:55 p.m., police responded to the area of Victoria Street near Frelinghuysen Avenue on a call of shots fired. While no one was injured, officers located a 2005 Ford F-150 that had been struck by gunfire.

As a result of their investigation, detectives from the Newark Police Division Major Crimes Unit determined that Ryeshon Peteet is a suspect in this shooting.

Peteet was arrested on Victoria Street and is charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.

A second suspect in this shooting remains at-large and the investigation is continuing.

Detectives had previously identified Peteet as a suspect in an incident of discharging a firearm in the area of Garside and Cutler streets on September 27, 2016. The Honorable Marvin Adames, J.M.C., issued a $200,000.00 warrant for Peteet’s arrest.

Peteet is charged in this incident with Aggravated Assault, Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose.
