Police in Newark apprehended a juvenile who was in possession of a handgun in front of Weequahic High School in the city's South Ward.
The incident occurred at approximately 2:35 p.m. in front of the school on Chancellor Avenue.
Authorities were alerted to the presence of an individual with a gun in the vicinity of the high school.
Responding promptly, officers conducted a thorough search of the area. Their efforts led to the discovery of a teenage boy, reportedly a student of Weequahic High School, carrying a handgun in his jacket pocket.
The circumstances under which the teenager came into possession of the firearm are still unclear.
