Police officials in Newark are reporting the arrest of a 17-year-old city juvenile, for the third time this year, for possession of a handgun, this time a loaded .9mm.
Police said shortly after 4 p.m. yesterday, detectives assigned to the Police Division’s Criminal Intelligence Unit were conducting an investigation in the 100 block of Irvine Turner Boulevard when they observed a male walking thought the apartment complex with a gun in his hand.
Officers quickly secured the juvenile and took possession of the loaded handgun authorities said.
Police charged the juvenile with the unlawful possession of a handgun.
Pending the outcome of the investigation, the teen's charges may be upgraded police said.
These charges are merely accusations.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
