Newark Ironbound Man Accused of Selling Alcohol Illegally

Police in newark took a man into custody and charged him with operating an illegal alcohol establishment.

According to police, they responded to several complaints from residents in the Ironbound section about the illegal sale of alcohol and gambling machines, police responded to 84 Monroe Street on Wednesday at approximately 7:35 p.m.

Police said, upon entering the 2nd-floor establishment, known as the Zig Zag Café, Police observed a bar stocked with several alcoholic beverages Mr. Carlos Ribeiro-Viana, 48, behind the bar.

Officers also recovered four Keno machines and four Fruit machines inside the establishment according to authorities.

Police arrested Ribeiro-Viana then charged him with Maintaining an Unlicensed Liquor Establishment, Unlawful Possession of Alcohol and Unlawful Possession of a Gambling Device.

These charges are merely accusations.

Carlos Ribeiro-Viana is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
