Each scholarship award is valued at $5,000 per academic year—$2,500 per semester—and is renewable for up to two years for students attending two-year colleges, and up to four years for those enrolled in four-year institutions.

Now entering its 36th year, the NHASF has distributed over $2.5 million in scholarship funds to more than 500 students since its inception in 1988.

The foundation has long been a source of hope and opportunity for economically disadvantaged students seeking to build brighter futures through education.

In an effort to guide families and students through the application process, the foundation is hosting several in-person informational sessions at community housing sites throughout Newark.

A final general session, open to all Newark Housing Authority students, will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at The Waterfront, located at 2 Grafton Avenue in Newark.

A full schedule of session dates and locations is available in the program’s informational flyer.

To be considered for the scholarship, applicants must:

- Be a current high school senior graduating in 2025

- Have lived in Newark Housing Authority public housing or a Housing Choice Voucher household for at least one year

- Maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher

- Complete the FAFSA

- Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two- or four-year college for the 2025–2026 academic year
