A man was injured in a shooting incident in Newark on Monday night, prompting an investigation by authorities.
The incident was initially reported around 9:40 p.m. when a ShotSpotter device activated, alerting police to gunfire near 487 7th Avenue.
When officers arrived at the scene, they found several shell casings but no immediate sign of any victims. After canvassing the area, the search did not turn up anyone injured.
However, just before 10 p.m., officials at University Hospital informed the police that a male victim had entered the emergency room with gunshot wounds.
The man had been transported to the hospital by a private vehicle, which dropped him off.
Authorities believe the victim was injured during the 7th Avenue shooting but are continuing to investigate the circumstances and determine a motive.
No other injuries have been reported, and the suspect remains at large. The investigation is ongoing.
