Newark, Hillside Men Arrested on Weapon, Drug Charges in Cranford

Police in Cranford arrested two men over the weekend who they say were found with a loaded .380 hand gun and narcotics during a motor vehicle stop.

According to authorities, at approximately 10:25 p.m., on May 28, Officer Daniel Donnerstag conducted a motor vehicle stop of a 2004 Jeep Cherokee in the area of E. North Avenue and Carpenter Place, after witnessing a motor vehicle violation.

After a subsequent investigation, Officer Donnerstag located a loaded .380 hand gun, and a large quantity of marijuana and ecstasy within the vehicle authorities said.

The occupants of the vehicle, Devon Gaillard, 22, of Hillside, and Kazimir Jones, 20, of Newark, were placed under arrest and transported to the Cranford Police Department.

An immediate follow-up investigation revealed that the loaded handgun was reported stolen out of Parsippany in 2015.

Gaillard and Jones were both charged with possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for unlawful purposes, possession of stolen property, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, and distribution of marijuana.

Bail was set at $100,000 for both, Gaillard and Jones, who were both committed to the Union County Jail pending a scheduled court appearance in Union County Superior Court on June 3rd.
