Newark Firefighters Tackle Multi-Alarm Blaze in South Ward Commercial Building

A fierce multi-alarm fire erupted in Newark's South Ward on Wednesday evening, leading to the destruction of a commercial building.Ad

Firefighting crews rushed to 722 Frelinghuysen Avenue around 8 p.m. following multiple reports of a fire.

Upon arrival, firefighters were met with heavy flames engulfing a two-story building.

The intensity of the fire prompted fire officials to escalate the response, striking a second and then a third alarm to summon additional manpower as the flames ravaged the structure.

Newark firefighters quickly deployed several hose lines and commenced an external attack on the flames.

Their efforts culminated in locating the seat of the fire, allowing them to extinguish the blaze just before 10 p.m.Ad

Fortunately, no injuries were reported in the incident.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation as authorities work to determine the circumstances that led to the fire.
