Newark Firefighters Launch Passaic River Search Before Calling Off Rescue Effort

Emergency responders in Newark launched a search and rescue operation late Monday night following reports of a person who had fallen into the Passaic River.

According to initial reports, the incident was reported around 10 p.m., prompting firefighters to deploy boats into the river near the Jackson Street Bridge in Newark’s East Ward. 

The Lyndhurst Fire Department’s dive team was also placed on standby as the search effort intensified.

However, during the operation, police made contact with the individual who was believed to have entered the water. 

Authorities determined that the person had not fallen into the river, leading firefighters to halt the search and remove boats from the water.
