Firefighters swiftly extinguished a fire that damaged a house in the West Ward Saturday morning.
The fast-moving fire broke out at 297 Smith Street at 3:30 a.m., sending crews to the scene to do battle.
Upon arrival, firefighters from a nearby station observed heavy fire spreading to several parts of the two and a half story house.
While firefighters stretched several lines to attack flames, EMS units were called in for several residents suffering minor injuries.
Firefighters knocked down the blaze in under a half-hour, with less than a half dozen residents displaced and assisted by the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
