Early Friday morning, Newark firefighters responded to a transformer fire at 540 Broad Street, where they successfully extinguished the blaze and rescued several individuals trapped in an elevator.
According to Newark Public Safety Director Fritz Fragé, the incident occurred at approximately 6:28 a.m. on September 13, when an alarm was triggered at the building.Firefighters arriving on the scene observed the fire located in an exterior vault housing a transformer.
During the response, Director Frage said they safely evacuated the building and rescued several people from an elevator that had become stuck between floors.
The fire was quickly brought under control, and PSEG was on-site to restore power to the building.
Fortunately, no injuries or relocations were reported, according to Director Fragé.The situation was brought under control, and all occupants of the building were confirmed to be safe.
