Firefighters in Newark stretched multiple lines to battle a three-alarm fire that tore through a building in the city Monday night.
Crews were dispatched to the vicinity of South 18th Street and Springfield Avenue to investigate reports of a fire with trapped occupants around 11:50 p.m.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed heavy flames engulfing the entire structure and extending to two neighboring homes.
Firefighters were hampered from entering the building by intense fire that shot from the roof and through the windows.
It took over two dozen firefighters about three hours to bring the massive blaze under control, with Bloomfield, East Orange, and Montclair among some companies providing mutual assistance.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
No severe injuries have been reported.
