Newark Fire Firefighters Subdue Building Blaze in East Ward, Firefighter Injured

Firefighters battled a fierce building fire Monday night in Newark's East Ward. The incident, reported at approximately 8:17 p.m., occurred in the 70s block of Barbara Street.Isaiah HouseResponding crews encountered flames tearing through a building and threatening to spread to adjacent structures.

Upon arrival, firefighters immediately recognized the severity of the situation, prompting officials to strike a second alarm to call in additional manpower.

Firefighting teams stretched several lines to combat the heavy fire that had begun to infiltrate deeper into the building.

During the efforts to contain the fire, one firefighter sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The fire was successfully brought under control just before 9 p.m. A thorough search of the property confirmed that no trapped or injured occupants were present.

Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire to determine the origins of this dangerous incident.
