An early morning crash that happened in the city's West' Ward placed Newark's Emergency Responders in action.
The crashed happened at around 4:15 a.m. in the 300 block Sanford Avenue when emergency crews were called to the scene after several residents were awakened by a loud boom and their building shake.
Newark Firefighters, University Hospital Rescue, Newark Police, and University Hospital EMS, rushed to the scene where they observed a car that broke through a gate and slammed into a building with one person trapped inside the smoking vehicle.
With the owner of the building ordering his daughter to sprint to a nearby fire house and pedestrians attempting to assist the trapped occupant, firefighters ran out of the station where the "Jaws of Life" was used to assist in cutting the vehicle and remove the victim.
The injured woman was then pulled from the vehicle and handed over to EMS, who then transported her to University Hospital where her injuries were not immediately reported to be life threatening.
"The woman was screaming to the top of her lungs in pain", residents said.
The cause of the crash is under investigation by Newark Police.
