Elizabeth police arrested four occupants of a rental vehicle involved in a chase Tuesday afternoon.
According to a statement released by police, the incident occurred Tuesday at approximately 4:16 p.m. where officers patrolling the area of South Pearl Street, observed a car violating motor vehicles laws, so they pulled the vehicle over.
Police said when officers got out of their car to investigate, the vehicle took off.
Police pursued the vehicle for approximately eight-tenths of a mile before the car crashed on Edgar Road.
The four suspects inside the vehicle - two adults from Elizabeth and two adults from Newark - were apprehended after a foot chase.
According to authorities, they recovered a 9mm handgun on one of the suspects. Also, investigating detectives are trying to determine if the vehicle used was stolen or rented from Enterprise Rental Company.
The suspects are facing charges such Eluding Police in the 2nd Degree, Unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, certain person not to possess a weapon in the 2nd Degree, obstructing the law and multiple motor vehicle violations.
The incident remains under investigation.
