Newark Eatery Ordered to Close Due to Mouse Droppings Allegedly Found in Fried Chicken

Newark

A downtown Newark restaurant was ordered temporarily closed to correct alleged concerns of pest issues reported to The Newark Department of Health earlier in the week.

A sign placed on the security gate by the Newark Code Enforcement of The Crown Fried Chicken located at 254 Washington Street ordered the establishment closed due to "public safety concerns" after a city resident said multiple mouse droppings were found inside a fried chicken platter that his girlfriend bought from the restaurant.

According to a statement made on the facebook page of the customer -'Thomas'-:

”My girlfriend ate chicken from Crowns and this is what they feel is ok to serve! I would advise anyone to never eat from here. It is unsanitary and unsafe. In addition to this, I saw with my own eyes today that the cook leaves out raw chicken and each and every piece on the pan is covered in mice feces”.

The Facebook post that went viral apparently prompted city officials to immediately take action and close the establishment for corrections and further inspection according to reports.

Newark Health Department officials have not released or stated if other complaints were lodged against the restaurant at this time or this is a one-time occurrence that must be corrected in order to reopen.

Calls made to managers at the restaurant went unanswered.
