Newark East Ward Shooting Suspect Sought by Police

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose is requesting the public’s help with locating shooting suspect Darius Mitchell, 36 of Newark.

Authorities said, at approximately 3:30 this morning a 35-year-old Rahway man was shot on Hawkins Street.

His injuries were not serious with him being treated and released from UMDNJ.

Detective Brown from the Department’s Cease Fire Shooting Response Team worked throughout the night before identifying Mitchell as the gunman.

After identifying Mitchell, Detective Brown was able to secure a $50,000 warrant for his arrest.

Although police are actively searching for Mitchell, we are asking for the public’s assistance in quickly locating and removing him from our streets where he continues to pose a threat.

The investigation into these actives is ongoing.
