Newark -- Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray and Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announced today that the Newark Police Department and the Essex County Prosecutor's Homicide/ Major Crimes Task Force are investigating a triple shooting, including a homicide.
Police said at approximately 7:23 p.m. on Wednesday, Newark Police Department patrol units responded to Riverview Terrace on a report of a shooting in progress.
Authorities said when they arrived they discovered Marquise Johnson, 20, of Newark suffering from what appeared to be multiple gun shot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel responded and Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene at 7:42 p.m.
According to authorities, a short time later, two other men showed up at local hospitals.
One at University Hospital and the other at Beth Israel suffering from gun shot wounds.
The investigation is active and ongoing authorities said.
