Newark, East Orange Women Arrested After Leading Police on Multi-County High-Speed Pursuit

NJ State Police took three suspects into custody after the trio - occupying a stolen car - led police on a multi-county pursuit on a highway that began in Hunterdon County on Saturday. 

According to a statement released by NJ State Police officials, at approximately 9:58 a.m., troopers attempted to stop a black Range Rover for a motor vehicle violation with lights and sirens activated on Interstate 78 eastbound in the area of milepost 17, Clinton Boro, Hunterdon County. 

State Police officials said the driver failed to stop and continued driving at a high rate of speed, eastbound on I-78.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle crashed into the right guardrail in the area of milepost 51.6. the three people immediately bailed from the car resulting in a foot pursuit.

Police say, Ms. Aaliyah Richardson, 18, and Ms. Nalaisha Diggs, 18, both of Newark, were taken into custody during the foot pursuit.  The third suspect, Ms. Keileen Abreu, 19,  of  East Orange, is a known alleged car thief who has been arrested by Paramus Police (Bergen County) for a high-speed pursuit in 2019.

Police believe that Abreu was the ring leader and the car was confirmed stolen out of Long Beach.

According to NJ State Police officials, the women were charged with receiving stolen property and eluding.

The crashed vehicle was reported totaled after the collision.
