Essex County sheriff’s detectives early this morning arrested a male suspect and filed weapons and drug charges against him.
According to authorities, officers from the Bureau of Narcotics and Tactical Response Team executed a search warrant at a third floor Newark apartment located 244 Chadwick Avenue.
Officials say when detectives entered the apartment, they immediately observed a variety of drug processing materials as the target of the investigation, Davon Cheatham, 26, attempted to flee through a bedroom window.
Police seized a plastic bag that contained 48 grams of marijuana and a fanny pack with $241. Below the bedroom window, police found a loaded .445 Dan Wesson revolver and a loaded .22 caliber Smith and Wesson handgun along with 62 rounds of ammunition.
Police charged Cheatham with the possession of a weapon while committing a narcotics crime, possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of CDS with intent to distribute, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 1000 feet of Belmont Runyon School, possession of CDS with intent to distribute within 500 feet of the Clinton Library and possession of narcotics paraphernalia.
Authorities say Cheatham was lodged at the county jail, where he awaits a bail hearing.
