Newark Command Rank Officer Returns to Duty after a Battle with COVID-19

Newark Public Safety Director Anthony F. Ambrose announces that Commander, Captain Matthew Ruane returns to the front lines after battling COVID-19.

Captain Matthew Ruane is the Commander of the Training Division and has been in law enforcement for 22 years, serving 19 years with the Newark Police Division.

His vast experience in law enforcement has been rewarded with numerous recognitions. Despite his experience on the job, COVID-19 has been one of his most challenging battles.

“The hardest part of this experience isn’t the fever, pain and cough it was being away from my loved ones and having to be isolated, but it is something you have to do.

My advice to my colleagues is to stay safe by following medical guidelines and make sure to check-up on one another when you know someone has fallen ill”, said Captain Ruane.

“Captain Ruane is an example that there is light at the end of the tunnel. We are glad to have him back”, said Public Safety Director Anthony Ambrose.
