Police in Newark are looking into a carjacking that was reported from a street in the city overnight.
According to preliminary reports, police were called to the vicinity of 202 South 8th Street after receiving reports of a carjacking in progress that occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m.
Upon arrival, police were advised that a male suspect approached the victim armed with a gun and demanded their green Jeep Cherokee at gunpoint.
Police were informed that the suspect is a 5'7" black male who wore a dark colored shirt, blue jeans and possessed a silver gun.
The vehicle has a reported NJ license plate number "G28-JJH".
There were no physical injuries immediately reported.
