Police are investigating a chase that gave way early this morning in Newark, leading to a police-involved shooting.
The chase came to a halt on 6th Street and 13th Ave. as the Lexus - occupied by five men - involved in a suspected robbery - crashed into a Newark home.
Following the crash, the five men fled, one of the men armed with a gun, according to police.
As the lieutenant ordered the armed man to drop the gun, the suspect allegedly pointed it at the lieutenant. As a result, the police officer shot the man in the chest.
The unidentified man was transported to University Hospital in Newark where he is listed in critical condition.
Authorities are investigating.
