Newark Bishop Attacked During Mass; Suspect in Custody

A man accused of attacking an auxiliary bishop during mass over the weekend has been arrested, according to police,

According to officials, on Saturday a Mass in honor baseball Hall of Famer Roberto Clemente at Newark's Cathedral Basilica of Second Heart was abruptly interrupted after Reverend Manuel Cruz was knocked to the ground, after a man punched him to the ground.

The man later identified as - Charles Miller - approached the altar and punched Rev. Cruz in the mouth.

Miller was immediately taken into custody by officers on the scene.

The bishop was transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

The incident remains under investigation. However, Miller was charged with assault.
