A suspicious item found in a Newark West Ward community sent heavy police presence to the scene shortly before midnight.
Police responded to the area of Springfield Avenue and South 14th Street after receiving several calls from residents for a suspicious item that was found inside a shopping cart at that location.
Arriving emergency responders and Newark Emergency Services Units located the shopping cart with the item inside prompting an inquiry into what the item was according to reports.
A thorough investigation had Newark's ESU clear the item from being dangerous reports said.
It is not clear who the shopping cart belonged to and how it got to the area.
