Newark Airport Cleaner Accused of Stealing Passenger’s Louis Vuitton Belt

A 43-Year-old Newark man, who works at Newark Airport as a cleaner was charged with theft after stealing a passenger’s belt.

According to police, at approximately 8 p.m. Monday evening, a Jersey City man took his belt off and placed in a basket prior to going through screening processing at Terminal C.

The Jersey City man passed through the metal detector and noticed his Louis Vuitton belt, valued at $1,500, was missing.   

An investigation ensued which ultimately identified Osmal Reyes, 43, of Newark, (an airport cleaner) as the thief.

Police apprehended Reyes and charged him with theft by unlawful taking.

The belt was found in Reyes' work trolley, rolled up in a side pocket. 

The belt was later returned to the owner.
