A fast-moving fire at the Templeton Arms apartment complex in Elizabeth on Sunday afternoon left nearly two dozen residents displaced, prompting assistance from the American Red Cross.Firefighters responded to reports of a blaze at the four-story brick building located at 631 North Broad Street around 1:35 p.m. Upon arrival, crews encountered heavy smoke coming from the stairwell.
Firefighters quickly located the source of the fire and deployed multiple water lines to combat the flames.
A second alarm was requested to bring additional manpower to the scene. Crews successfully brought the fire under control within 30 minutes.
At the conclusion of the firefight, the American Red Cross assisted six families, totaling 17 residents, with food, lodging, and other temporary needs.
The Elizabeth Fire Department is investigating the cause of the blaze.
