NC Police Identify Man Caught with Slain Woman's Baby, Car

Elizabeth

North Carolina police have released the identity of an Elizabeth man arrested after leading police on a chase all while driving the slain victim's car, occupied by their two-month old child.

According to North Carolina police, a state trooper attempted to stop the silver Dodge traveling south on I-84 near Salisbury, N.C. around 4 Sunday afternoon, after the trooper noticed blue emergency lights on the grill of the car. However, the driver, later identified as Arturo Alomas, refused to stop but lost control, struck a concrete barrier and continued down the highway.

A chase ensued, ultimately coming to a halt when Alomas struck the trooper's vehicle, disabling the Dodge.

As troopers took Alomas into custody, they noticed a baby in a child car seat, which was only restrained by a seatbelt. When police questioned Alomas, about the Trenice Johnson, the registered owner of the vehicle, he told police she was somewhere in New Jersey.

At that point, authorities contacted Elizabeth police who later confirmed that Johnson was found dead.

North Carolina police arrested and charged Alomas with speeding to elude arrest, illegal possession of blue emergency lights, child restraint, damage to personal car, assault on government official, misdemeanor child abuse, and careless and reckless driving.

Alomas is being held at the Rowan County jail on $500,000 bail.

According to police, the infant was not harmed and is in custody of the North Carolina Department of Social Services.

A statement released yesterday by Acting Union County Prosecutor Grace Park, stated that Johnson was found dead in her apartment about 6 p.m. Sunday. However, no information about Alomas or the car or the infant was included.

The only other information provided in the release was the cause of death which was determined to be a combination of strangulation and asphyxiation.

As of Tuesday afternoon, no other information has been released by authorities in New Jersey.
