Newark –Acting Essex County Prosecutor Carolyn A. Murray announced today that at approximately 6 am detectives from the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office Narcotics Task Force executed a search warrant at 371 Lakes Street in Newark where drugs, weapons and cash were recovered. Two handguns – a 9mm Lugar and a 357 revolver – were recovered along with 2,500 decks of cocaine with an estimated street value of $25,000, one pound of marijuana, $50,000 in U.S. currency and various narcotics paraphernalia. In addition, Tarik Latham, 35, of Newark was arrested and charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance; possession with intent to distribute; possession with intent to distribute within 1,000 feet of a school; possession with intent to distribute within 500 feet of public property; two counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and two counts of a convicted felon in possession of a weapon. The Honorable Robert H. Gardner, Judge of the Superior Court, set bail for Latham at $350,000. These are accusations. All defendants are presumed innocent unless and until they enter a guilty plea or are found guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
