Several victims were reportedly injured in a shooting that occurred in a section of Newark's Central Ward late Thursday night.
The shooting happened just before 10 p.m. in the vicinity of 855 South 19th Street between Hopkins Place and Avon Avenue.
Police responded to reports of shots fired that rang out in the residential neighborhood that borders the South Ward. Officers arrived at the scene and found a male victim injured at that location.
According to reports, while police conducted an investigation at the crime scene, officials at University Hospital contacted police and informed them that two males entered the hospital suffering gunshot injuries.
Police reportedly recovered a weapon at the scene and several shell casings. There are no immediate reports of fatalities at this time.
The motive for the shooting is under investigation.
