Police are investigating a shooting that had several people rushed to the hospital overnight in Plainfield.
Gunfire erupted in the 700 block of Hillside Avenue at around 11 p.m. sending police to the scene where officers located three victims shot at that location.
The most seriously injured was immediately rushed to Robert Wood Johnson Medical Center where the victim died a short time later.
The remaining two victims that were found were transported to Robert Wood Johnson in serious but stable condition according to authorities.
One person suffering a gunshot wound to the back was transported to private vehicle to Muhlenberg Hospital in serious condition.
A prelimniary investigation indicated that this was possibly a drive-by shooting where gunmen fired off about a dozen rounds in the area before speeding away from the scene.
The Union County Prosecutor's Office is handling the investigation.
