Multiple Gunshots that Erupted on the Irvington, Newark Border Caused Injuries

A vehicle reportedly speeding out of the Township of Irvington fired more than a dozen rounds from a gun sending at least two people to a Newark hospital late last night.

According to preliminary reports, the incident happened shortly before 10 p.m. when residents in the area heard more than a dozen loud popping noises then a vehicle racing down Springfield Avenue out of Irvington.

Police arrived at the scene where they found a male victim struck by gunfire near 18th Street and Springfield Avenue.

University Hospital officials contacted authorities when one other person was transported by private vehicle injured by gunfire.

Police taped off Springfield Avenue between 17th Street to 21st Street where cops found a large number of shell casings as officers attempted to locate a possible third gunshot victim according to reports.

Newark Public Safety Director said the department was trying to determine which municipality would handle the investigation.

There were no fatalities immediately reported.
