Multiple Crashes Keep Newark Emergency Responders Busy Overnight

Newark

An extremely busy overnight for emergency responders from the Newark Police Department, University Hospital Rescue, Newark Fire Department, and Newark Emergency Services Department after several vehicle crashes sent several people to the hospital.

These were some of the crashes that we were able to follow through the night:

1. Emergency responders rushed to the scene of a crash that happened in the 400 block of South 20th Street at around 10 p.m. where one of the vehicles fled the scene. EMS assisted with at least one person that suffered non-life threatening injuries.

2. Shortly before 11:25 p.m., police closed traffic to a portion of Frelinghuysen Avenue near Victoria Avenue after a car slammed into a pole causing the vehicle to burst into flames and wires to fall onto the roadway. One person was transported to University Hospital suffering non-life threatening injuries.

3. On Route 1&9 Southbound near Wilson Avenue at around 1:45 a.m., emergency crews responded to a crash near the ramp that had emergency responders on the scene where two people suffered non-life threatening injuries. The crash caused fluids to spill onto the roadway.

4. Emergency responders received calls reporting a crash on Passaic Street at Gouverneur Street shortly before 3:30 a.m. where they arrived to find two people suffering injuries as a result of the crash at that location.

One of the victims suffered serious injuries while the other suffered minor injures. Both victims were transported to University Hospital.
