Authorities in Newark are investigating a multi-vehicle crash that sent several people to the hospital and temporarily shut down a busy stretch of US-9 in Monmouth County early Saturday morning.
The crash occurred around 12:20 a.m. in the southbound lanes of US-9 near Union Hill Road.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to find as many as three vehicles involved in a collision.
One victim sustained severe head injuries and was listed in critical condition, while other individuals with injuries were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The crash took place near the border of Manalapan, requiring coordination between municipalities to determine jurisdiction.
Both Manalapan and local police were on the scene to assist in sorting out the details.
The cause of the collision remains under active investigation.
Authorities have not released additional details and are urging anyone with information to contact local law enforcement.
