Firefighters in Hudson County battled a multi-alarm fire that tore through several buildings in Bayonne overnight.
According to preliminary reports, heavy fire tore through a building that houses a restaurant in the vicinity of 795 Broadway at approximately 1:30 a.m. where massive flames extended to two other wood framed structures forcing fire officials to activate four alarms as the fire rapidly grew.
An unidentified female victim was pulled from one of the apartments in the building and pronounced dead according to fire officials. There were several other injuries, including one firefighter, who suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Firefighters were able to gain the upper hand while battling the fire after about two hours of pouring vast amounts of water on the blaze but the fire has not been officially placed under control.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
