There were no serious injuries reported in a multi-alarm fire that destroyed two buildings in Jersey City overnight.
Heavy fire ripped through the roof of a large three-story building located in the 400 block of Bergen Avenue just before midnight.
According to preliminary reports, crews arrived at the scene to find massive fire gutting the structure with residents running from the building.
Firefighters on the scene struck several alarms when flames began to extend to another building as crews stretched several lines in an effort to bring the blaze under control.
Firefighters rescued a cat that was trapped on a balcony, but a search of the building had no trapped occupants.
The American Red Cross was on the scene to assist in the relocation of more than a dozen residents.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control just before 3 a.m.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
