There is a crash investigation underway in the southbound lanes of Interstate 287 in Franklin Township as authorities determine the cause of a crash that left a motorcyclist dead early this morning.
The crash happened at around 4 a.m. near exit 10 where police and EMS were called to the scene after receiving reports of a crash with serious injuries reported.
Arriving first responders located the badly injured victim laying on the ground separated from motorcycle, unconscious and unresponsive according to reports.
A preliminary investigation revealed that the victim somehow lost control of the motorcycle and was thrown to the ground where he was reportedly struck by several vehicles.
The victim was later pronounced dead by medics.
The crash caused all southbound lanes of the highway to remain closed and detoured as of 5:30 a.m.
The NJ State Police have launched an investigation.
