Police in Newark took the driver of a car into custody after a traffic stop ended with police confiscating a gun from the vehicle on Thursday evening.
According to preliminary reports, police pulled the car over in the vicinity of Ridge and South 6th streets just before 7:55 p.m.
Police say a further investigation led them to a weapon found in the vehicle.
Officers took the male suspect into custody then charged him with possessing a gun, according to police.
The incident remains under investigation.
