Mother, Daughter Carjacked in Orange

Police in Orange are investigating a carjacking that happened in the city this afternoon.

According to reports, the carjacking happened at the intersection of Carteret Place and Highland Avenue shortly before 2 p.m. where police were called to the scene for a carjacking in progress.

Units arrived to find two female victims who reported being carjacked by a black male suspect shortly before police arrived.

The victims reported to cops, that shortly after the daughter pulled her vehicle over for an unknown reason, a Jeep Cherokee pulled up to their vehicle and a male occupant exited and approached them.

The suspect, who was described as a black male who was wearing a black hoodie, blue jeans, and white sneakers gestured as if he was reaching for a weapon. He then ordered the woman out of their vehicle.

The women quickly exited the car and scambled for safety before the suspects sped away towards Carteret Place and Central Avenue.

The suspect is in his late teens or early 20's according to reports. .

Police are looking for a 2015 Hyundai Sonata with a reported NJ license plate number "N62-FPL"

This is the second carjacking in the Highland Avenue area in several days.

A string of carjacking in Essex County that occurred today has authorities on high alert.

The Essex Counry Sheriff's Department and Orange Police are investigating.
