Authorities in Morris County announced the sentencing of Tezmar Caldwell, 40, of Morristown, in connection with a Burglary committed in Morristown on February 11, 2024.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll stated that on March 14, the Honorable Stephen J. Taylor, P.J. Cr., sentenced the defendant on charges of second-degree Burglary to a term of eight years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act (NERA), which mandates that a defendant serve 85 percent of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole.
According to MCPO officials, that on the third-degree Terroristic Threat charge, the defendant was sentenced to a concurrent term of imprisonment of 5-years imprisonment.
Caldwell was also sentenced to a concurrent term of 6 months for a disorderly persons Simple Assault charge, MCPO officials say. As part of his sentence, the defendant will also be subject to three years of parole supervision upon his release from prison.
Caldwell had been found guilty by a jury on January 13, of one count of second-degree Burglary and one count of third-degree Terroristic Threat, Morris County authorities stated.
Additionally, Morris County officials said he was also found guilty by the court of one count of disorderly persons offense Simple Assault. Caldwell was acquitted of two counts of first-degree Robbery and one count of disorderly persons Theft.
He has been held at the Morris County Correctional Facility pending sentencing, according to Morris County officials. The State presented evidence that on February 11, 2024, Caldwell entered a vehicle parked on Flagler Street in Morristown, containing a sleeping juvenile.
As the juvenile woke up and tried to get Caldwell out of the vehicle, Caldwell struck the juvenile in the face, breaking his nose. Caldwell shouted threats at the juvenile as he left the scene before police arrived, MCPO authorities said. 
Morris County officials say police later identified Caldwell from surveillance footage and he was arrested on February 14, 2024.
