A Morristown man has been charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury, terroristic threats, unlawful possession of a weapon for unlawful purpose, and possession of a weapon, according to Sheriff James Gannon.The Morris County Sheriff’s Office Patrol Division responded to an incident on Tuesday, May 14, at 2:25 a.m.
An injured man reported being threatened and assaulted after an argument on Patriots Path in Morristown, off Martin Luther King Avenue.
The victim provided a description of the suspect and informed officers that the suspect was still in the area.
Sheriff’s Sergeant Kyle Koster, Sheriff’s Officer Brian Weber, and Morristown Police located the suspect, identified as Ricardo Martinez-Bonilla, sleeping on the trail.Martinez-Bonilla was taken into custody and lodged in the Morris County Correctional Facility on a complaint warrant.
The victim was transported to Morristown Medical Center for his injuries.
Sheriff Gannon praised the swift action and diligent police work of the patrol officers, stating, "Their efforts averted any future potential victims."
